How do I chat privately with someone without adding them to my list of contacts?

At MeWe, our users' privacy is our top concern. We want you to be able to communicate privately with others, but at the same time we do not want to compromise that privacy by leaving you vulnerable to being contacted by just anyone. So we developed a way for you to chat privately, while still giving you the ability to control what others do and don't see.

To chat privately with someone, you will have to either send or receive a contact request to or from them. This doesn't mean you have to be "friends" in any sense, since there are preferences you can adjust according to your relationship with the other person. Before sending a contact request, you may turn off the switch that would "allow them to see your My World posts". And before accepting a contact request, you may open the other person's profile and choose whether or not to "show this member’s posts in your My World stream", and whether or not to "allow this member to see what you post to My World". Depending on the purpose of your connection with them, you may wish to leave both options checked, only one checked, or neither checked. Having neither one checked will leave private chat as the only available method of communication between you, thereby allowing you to connect with others while still preserving your privacy.

We are always working to make MeWe better for our users, and this is one area in which we are giving particular focus! As time goes on, stay tuned for updates that will make private communication between our members easier, while still respecting everyone's privacy.
