Why does MeWe require so many permissions for the mobile app, like accessing my microphone and pictures?

These permissions are there to help you easily use MeWe to do what you want to do with sharing and recording voice messages, pictures, videos, and more.  iOS and Android handle these in different ways. Android has to ask for all the permissions at once, when installing the app, while in iOS we can ask for them selectively, as needed. So we ask for access to the camera when the user wants to take a pic, or the microphone when they want to record, so it’s more apparent to the user why the app needs access. But in Android, we have to get them all at the beginning.

Here’s what they’re for :

Identity: The app uses this to pre-fill your name in the registration form, when possible.

Contacts: The app needs this to be able to send invitations to the people in your contact list.

Photos/Media/Files: The app needs this in order to allow you to share photos and video

Microphone: The app needs this to allow you to record messages and send them in your chats, posts and comments.

Device ID: The app uses this to send SMS invitations from MeWe using your correct phone number.
