What is an open group?

An open group is a group that anyone can join, unless they have been blocked by the group owner. It differs from a Private group in that it can be found in the group directory (if it has at least 5 members and received a new post within the last 2 weeks) and in group searches. And it differs from Selective groups in that joining the group does not require any approval by the owner or admins.
